Answers
A1 Is financing available for a Wonder Pool?
Yes. Banks and other lending institutions consider swimming pools as home improvements and give them the same consideration they would any other home improvement. We accept Master Card, Visa, Discover Card, American Express or cash.

A2 How much do Wonder Pools cost to install?
Prices vary according to the size of pool and optional equipment being installed. A Wonder Pool Kit fully equipped for an 18’x36’ pool, which is the average size home pool, can usually be installed by the homeowner for around $3,000.00. This includes hiring a backhoe operator for digging and a concrete crew to pour a 3’ sidewalk around the pool. Prices may vary on concrete and excavation labor in your area.

A4 What is the first step in building a Wonder Pool?
First, you need to decide where your pool will be located and what size it will be. [NOTE: The average size home pool is the 18’x36] allow,at mimimum, an extra 3’ all around for a sidewalk. You may want one of our larger size pools. In the event, measure and stake it out on the ground. When deciding location, be sure to consider underground septic lines, sewer lines, gas or electric. Don’t worry about utility and telephone lines as the utility companies will usually re-route these free of charge; however, it may be easier to relocate the pool than to move the sewer or septic lines. Do not locate your pool under an overhanging power line. If you have an overhanging power line, you may be able to have it re-routed to the other end of your house or have it moved to another pole.

A6 What tools and other equipment will I need to build my Wonder Pool?
You probably have everything you need except for a transit level, which may be rented or borrowed. (Your excavator will probably loan you his or know where you may rent one for a few days). You will need shovels, carpenter hammers, sledge hammer, mattock (looks something like a pick with a hoe-type edge on one side), carpenter level, one roll of nylon cord, hack saw, pipe wrench, 50’ tape measure, a caulking gun, wet or dry vac, phillips and regular screwdriver, carpenter square, handsaw and concrete finishers trowel.

A7 Do I dig the hole with hand shovels?
No. We recommend you hire a backhoe operator. There are independent operators in most areas that charge by the hour to work for you. These operators may be listed in the yellow pages of your telephone book under “Excavators”. They may also be listed under the “services” section of your newspaper advertisements.

A8 How long will excavation of my pool take?
It depends on the site, pool size and your operator. The average pool can usually be dug in eight to ten hours. If you have a sloping yard, you may be able to keep all of the excavated dirt on the site and avoid any extra cost for hauling it away. You will need your excavator to return to level your site after the water is up in your pool.

A9 How long will it take to completely build my pool?
With one helper (teenage son or neighbor’s kid), usually a week to ten days of actual work will finish the job, or perhaps a month of weekends and evenings.

A10 What about concrete work around the top of the pool? I can't finish concrete.
Most people can’t. We suggest you do your own forming, to save money, and hire a local concrete man to pour and finish the concrete around the top of the pool. Unless you are skilled at it, don’t attempt to finish your concrete yourself. Call your local concrete plant and ask for the names of several contractors who would be willing to pour and finish a few yards of concrete for a homeowner. The overall price is usually cheaper if you pay for the concrete yourself and let your contractor just pour and finish.

A11 How much concrete will I need around my pool?
We recommend a minimum of 3’ with a little extra around the steps and diving board. However, you may want extra concrete on one side or one end of your pool for sunbathing, lawn chairs and umbrella table. If you are working on a tight budget, you may pour your sidewalk and add extra deck at a later time.

A12 What about electric hookup for my pump?
A 220W or 110W electric line with an on-off switch will have to be run for the pump and a grounging ring around the pool. You may know an electrician who would do this in his off hours, or check your yellow pages for electrical contractors who specialize in small jobs and repair work.

A13 What about building permits?
Building permits are not required in most smaller communities and rural areas. However, call your local building inspector to be sure. If a building permit is required, it usually will not cost much at all.

A14 What about a fence?
Fences will vary with taste. You may purchase and install your own quite cheaply.

A15 What about shipping? How do I order my pool kit and get it here?
You may order your pool by letter or by phone. We ship pool kits to anywhere in the continental U.S. You may, if you prefer, save the shipping cost and pick up your pool kit yourself. A pool kit can be hauled in a pickup truck and flatbed trailer. You would need five to seven days from the time we receive your order to have it ready for pick up.
